About How The Bible Works

What is How The Bible Works?

We exist to help others understand the Bible as divine and human literature. To do this, we create free resources that focus on the literary devices, genres and structures of God’s Word. We share everything on our YouTube channel and on our website.

Who are you?

We are Chris and Tallulah, a husband and wife duo who love the Bible and want others to understand its beauty and genius. You can find out more about us below.

What’s your statement of belief?

We are evangelical Protestants who proudly affirm both the Nicene Creed and the Apostle’s Creed. We are theologically conservative and charismatic.

Which social media sites are you on?

We are currently just on YouTube (so make sure you subscribe!). We plan to expand to other channels as we grow but for now we are focusing our efforts on videos and the website.

Are all your resources free?

Yes! We wanted to make sure that everyone can access all our videos and guides without any paywall. This is only possible because of generous donations from people around the world. So, if you like what we do, please consider donating.

How can I support you?

Prayer is a great place to start. It’s hard to set up and run a ministry without a main funder and with two small children. We need encouragement and God’s guidance every step of the way. You can subscribe to our YouTube channel and share links to our videos and guides. Your personal recommendation to friends and family is how we grow. You can set up a regular donation which enables us to spend more time creating content and planning ahead.

How are you funded?

All of our funding so far has come from individual donations. So your support is vital to keep us going. We are so grateful to individuals at our church who helped us get started. In future, we are open to other forms of funding such as grants and sponsorships. This will help make sure the ministry is sustainable and our resources stay free for everyone.

Are you a registered charity?

Not at the moment. We are just two people on a mission. However, we do plan to explore gaining charity status in the future.

What are your future plans?

We have so many plans and a long list of topics that we are slowly working through. We run this ministry alongside other work and taking care of two small children so we focus our efforts where God leads us. Your encouragement and your ideas are so important to us.

About Chris and Tallulah

Are you married?

Yes! We got married in 2023 and we have two children.

Where do you live?

We are based in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, UK. You wouldn’t guess that from our accents though as we both grew up in England and came to Wales for university.

Where do you go to church?

We attend our local Anglican church in Cardiff, UK. It’s theologically charismatic and evangelical. We’ve both been Christians all our lives. Chris grew up as a Baptist and Tallulah grew up in a mix of Anglican, Elim and non-denominational churches.

Where did you go to university?

Chris studied his undergraduate degree in Music at the University of Birmingham. During his degree, he completed modules in Biblical Studies. He then moved to Cardiff to study a Master’s in Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Tallulah studied at Cardiff University for her undergraduate degree in French which included modules in literature and philosophy. She then continued on to study a Master’s in Translation Studies which covered Bible translation.

What’s your professional background?

Chris continues to work as a musician, teacher and conductor alongside How the Bible Works. He is also the local Chapter Director for Reasonable Faith. Tallulah previously worked in schools outreach and then as an education consultant for universities in England and Wales. As well as How The Bible Works, she’s a stay at home mum looking after our two little ones.

What’s your favourite food?

Tallulah loves ice cream! Favourite flavour: mint chocolate chip. Favourite topping: hazelnuts. Chris prefers food that’s red. So, ketchup over mayo.

What are your quirks?

Chris speaks in lists. We call them “Chris lists”. It’s his way of covering all the bases. Tallulah has learnt to love it. Whereas, Tallulah speaks in absolutes and leaves others to infer the nuance. Chris is learning to love it.

About Donations

Why do you ask for donations?

Our ministry is funded solely by donations so every penny helps to keep us running. We are so grateful for every donation, however big or small.

How do I donate?

You can donate either one-off, monthly or yearly on our website. Regular donations are particularly helpful as they help us plan ahead.

How do I donate a large one-off sum?

If you would like to donate a large sum please get in contact with us at howthebibleworks@gmail.com.

How do I cancel my donation?

If you would like to cancel a regular donation you can do this with your bank by cancelling the direct debit. If you're having trouble cancelling your direct debit, please contact us at howthebibleworks@gmail.com.

Can I have a refund on my donation?

We aren't able to offer refunds on any donations. However, you can stop future payments by cancelling the direct debit with your bank.

Do you have to pay transaction fees?

Yes, there are transaction fees when you donate through our website. The exact amount depends on where you are donating from. It ranges from 2%-4% of your donation. We cover those fees but if you are willing to donate a little more to cover them yourself, that is a huge blessing to us.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Not currently. But as the ministry grows we will look at ways to do this in the future.

Can I add Gift Aid to my donation (UK)?

Unfortunately not at the moment. We did look into it but weren’t able to set it up yet. However, as the ministry grows we plan to organise Gift Aid via stewardship.com.
